NEWS: Woodenface

(29 January 2008)

What's a long list? It's longer than a short list, and it has to do with awards. Woodenface has made it onto the long list for the Branford Boase Award 2008. This prize is awarded annually for what the judges consider to be the best first novel for young people published in Britain during the previous year, and is presented to the author and the editor. Megan Larkin and I are keeping our fingers crossed that Woodenface makes it through to the short list, from which the winner will be chosen, though we'll have to wait a few months before that happens.

The award was set up in memory of Henrietta Branford (author) and Wendy Boase (editor) who both died of cancer in 1999. If you haven't read anything by Henrietta, do! Fire, Bed and Bone is great.
