NEWS: Woodenface

(27 August 2007)

I've been doing storytelling/reading sessions at the Burnside Gallery on Arran over the summer, taking along a wooden dancing doll that my friend and neighbour Ed O'Donnelly made for me. It's based on Meg's Dilly-Lal from Woodenface, so naturally I call her Dilly-Lal, and she's been a great hit. She rattles out the rhythm with her jointed feet and swings her arms around, while I diddle a tune for her dancing.

I also have a ready made doll that I picked up from a shop. He has a painted suit and a top hat and I call him Mr Edgar Womersley - another character from Woodenface. His dancing is clumsy in comparison to Dilly-Lal's, but that fits his character. I'll be taking them both on my visits. If you're there, you may get a chance to have a go with one of them.
